  • NEWS RELEASE SMITH BROTHERS BASEBALL CENTRAL & The CENTRAL ONTARIO REDS ************************* Smith Brothers Baseball is fully open in our new Phelpston location with batting tunnels and gym space! We are now located at 1335 Flos Rd. 4 W., just off Highway 27 in Phelpston. Smith Brother Baseball made the move from our 10-year home in New Lowell to our new property in Phelpston in September 2021. Looking to expand and grow the business, we needed the space to make our wildest dreams come true, and that is exactly what this property offers. Moving from a 12,000-square-foot space in the middle of a pandemic came with its challenges, but the end goal will be so worth it, and Smith Brothers was ready for a challenge and a change. Smith Brothers Baseball worked diligently upon closing on the property to get our customers into usable space. The property has three outbuildings, with two of them being converted to usable baseball and gym space. The first of the buildings, which is now our batting tunnels, needed very few changes, adding a furnace, turf, netting and some paint got our building up and open by November. After that came the larger challenge of creating our gym building. This building required adding extra walls, a bathroom, and all new siding, but the result ended up fantastic, and today it is fully open and operational. This gives our private lessons, clinics, team rentals and Central Ontario Reds team enough space to train for the winter months improving their batting and fitness skills. We want all of our customers to feel comfortable and at home, while practising and improving their skills with us, and we want to take them on this journey with us. Our new location offers space to grow and to experience the great outdoors, the way baseball should be experienced, in warmer months that is. We have plans and hopes of adding a beautiful, full-functioning baseball diamond, and an 120-by-45 foot additional for more training space and a parent lounge. *************************...

  • 2020 was a year unlike any other, a global pandemic, a lockdown for two and a half months, and uncertainty to what the summer would hold. The Central Ontario Reds were committed to giving the 12U, 13U & 14U teams a season they deserved.   While other organizations struggled to find a way to make sports possible, The Central Ontario Reds worked tirelessly with our local MPP, Honourable Jim Wilson, to ensure that The Reds and other members of the Fergie Jenkins League (FJSL) were able to have a 2020 season. With many letters, phone calls, and conversations, The Reds were finally granted permission from local levels of government, and shortly after the provincial government stated that a season was possible. The Reds want to thank Mr. Wilson for all of his work and his unwavering support of the Central Ontario Reds Teams and Organization.   In order to have The Reds season continue, strict guidelines implemented from the FJSL, labelled the FJSL COVID-19 Operational Plan, in which The Reds had a key role in helping to develop. To keep the health and safety of all teams and coaches a priority, spectators were minimized to two immediate family members. The operational plan stated practice/playing guidelines, coaching responsibilities, umpire modification, and gameplay guidelines. A new “bubble” play was introduced. Bubbles were 3-4 teams out of the original loop, who played against each other for the whole season. Using the bubble format, the Central Ontario Reds teams were able to play their season.   A normal season for the Central Ontario Reds would see each team play between 26-30 games, The Reds are happy to announce that all teams did get their whole season in, with the 12U, 13U and 14U teams all playing between 26-30 games each! They were also able to practice from June until September!   After a season that many thought would not happen, the majority of Reds players have returned to continue with the 12U 13U and 14U 2020-2021 teams, and the Reds welcome some new players to these teams as well the newly formed 11U team. A few players have gone on to play for teams in the PBLO and CPBL. The Central Ontario Reds wish these players much success in their new and future endeavours.   The Reds started training for the 2020-2021 season in November with Indoor Winter training. Each team was able to finish the first section of all Winter training requirements. The Central Ontario Reds are looking forward to what 2021 has to offer our organization, the FJSL, and all the players, parents and family members!   Let’s Play Ball!...

  • In February 2019, Team REVO Canada, made up of 12 players and coaches from the Central Ontario Reds and Voyageurs, had the opportunity to travel to Santiago de Rodriguez, Dominican Republic on a humanitarian/baseball trip.  Thank you to our sponsors; Ideal Supply, Carline Automotive, Culinary Designs, Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic, Tire Discounter Group, Central Ontario Reds, Lions Club of Stayner and Smith Brothers Baseball Central for making this trip possible.  The team spent 6 days in a Dominican non-tourist working town training with some ex-professional baseball players and EMI Baseball academy located in the town.  Our boys had the opportunity to see where some of their heroes came from and the conditions they trained and lived in. The boys trained for 5 days total during their trip and played 3 games, winning all three.  They met some fantastic role models and competitors.  The boys made friends with Yefri (Jeffrey) an 11-yr. old boy that was a shoe-shiner by ‘trade’.  Yefri was with the team from the early morning hours to late at night bonding with the boys and showing us all around his town.  We even had the opportunity to meet his family and visit their very modest home.  A memory our boys will never forget.  We have been able to remain in contact with Yefri and some of the ex-players through social media.   We truly hope to be able to see them again on another trip. When the team wasn’t playing ball, they had the opportunity to share some of their good fortune with the less fortunate.  The team brought 13 suitcases/ball bags of gear, school supplies, clothing, and daily bathroom necessities to give to those that may not be able to afford to buy their own.  We visited a very poor town a few hours away from where we were playing, and the village came to us.  The children and moms alike were so thrilled and appreciative of all we could share with them.  We also visited a local school where we brought clothing and school supplies for the younger kids.  The day continued with a practice at the local field where some of the children were using sticks as bats.  Our team handed out some ball gear that will be used at the local diamond.  The day was topped off with a true Dominican lunch served by our host’s aunt.  What an amazing day! We all came home after that trip with a realization of how truly lucky we are to live as we do and have access to some of the opportunities we have.  It was an eye-opener for players, coaches and adults alike.  We would like to thank Yordeny and Sylvia for sharing their town with us and being instrumental in making this trip such a huge success.  We’d also like to thank Louis Rodriquez and Sanchez at EMI Academy for all the hard work and passion you shared with all of us.  We hope to do it again!!...
